Telling the Story of Prevention Research
Challenge
The UMass Worcester Prevention Research Center at UMass Medical School in Worcester works closely with numerous community and public health partners to promote healthy weight and address obesity and its associated conditions. UMass Worcester PRC’s collaborative research yields practical health promotion and disease prevention to bring long-term benefits to the community. Finding a successful way to effectively communicate that research and program information—key to retaining grant funding—presented a daunting challenge for the center.
Strategy
Changing the format of how UMass Worcester PRC communicated the annual accomplishments of its community-based participatory research programs to its stakeholders marked the first phase of improved messaging under Choice Words/Chisolm & Co.’s direction. Moving from an emailed PDF summary to a tangible, comprehensive annual report changed the focus to succinct stories about community-based projects in which UMass Worcester PRC is involved and invested.
Results
Through the combination of the firm’s skillful editing and crisp storytelling, UMass Worcester PRC presented its community–based participatory research in an inviting way to entice and educate its grant funders.
